The entire AAA programme of principles is close to my heart and I will help to implement it in the council. As an activist for social housing, I want to focus on more and better social housing, shortening waiting lists, reducing housing costs and improving the legal position of tenants, including the introduction of a social tenants’ right of inheritance to strengthen the bond with the home and the neighbourhood. It is also important to give all residents (buyers and tenants) more direct control over their homes and neighbourhoods, not top-down governance! In addition, I want to work towards free tram, metro and bus transport for everyone, paid for by tourist tax, in order to reduce traffic congestion and compensate Amsterdammers for the price increases caused by tourism. I also want to work towards free and accessible clean sanitary facilities for everyone, including more drinking water points. Finally, I believe that the municipality should stand up for peace by distancing itself from the current policy of escalation imposed by The Hague and Europe. No boycott measures against Russia, such as closing the Hermitage Museum, and no more money for weapons, which does not resolve the conflict but does come at the expense of social policy. Amsterdam can make a positive contribution by supporting economic and cultural ties with all countries, including Russia. Only through cooperation and connection will peace have the chance it deserves.
